Mild autism spectrum disorder is a group of symptoms ranging from mild to severe developmental disorder characterized by impaired learning, behavioral and social skills. Autistic Disorder, Asperger Syndrome and Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (or atypical autism); are categorized under Autism Spectrum Disorder. All are actually regarded by several Health Care Practitioners as the same thing considering similarities in features, though slight variations may be present. Classic areas affected by mild autism spectrum disorder include Verbal and Non-Verbal Communication ranging from insufficient spoken words, poor eye contact, among others. Social Interaction is also affected; emotions and comprehension are limited. Repetitive gestures or actions have also been observed in mild autism spectrum disorder; ranging from repeating uttered words, following highly predictable schedule to occasional head banging. Symptoms of mild autism spectrum disorder can be observed as early as eighteen (18) months of age and becomes highly apparent by age three (3). Take everything one step at a time. The Child needs more time to comprehend and respond. Repeat information when necessary. In most cases, repetition of information is effective. Keep everything simple. Be consistent. Communicate clearly. Be patient. Promote independence Foster cooperation Be sensitive.

There is no proven cure for mild autism spectrum disorder. However, early detection and prompt treatment have demonstrated higher success rate in achieving the child's optimum functioning later in life. Treatment for mild autism spectrum disorder is geared towards improvements in behavior, communication and social skills. Therefore it is highly recommended for parents that as soon as differences in learning and development are noticed, have the child seen by the appropriate health care provider. The child may also be enrolled in a special education program to facilitate learning suitable to the child's level of development. Ultimately, mild autism spectrum disorder is manageable. With prompt and proper treatment, the child's best possible potential can be achieved and in due course he (the child) can still be a productive member of society.
